Today’s topic of discussion is how to make your teenager obey you.

Being a parent is not a joke, especially with the responsibility of grooming the young ones from childhood until they become full-grown adults.

But the most challenging part of being a parent is when your child reaches the teenage stage. This is one of the parenting stages most parents wish they could skip if possible because of the problems they come with.

Teenagers behave in this manner because most teenagers start exhibiting bad characteristics like lack of respect, questioning moral authority, and gross disobedience at this point in the child’s life.

This character of teenagers can be attributed to their brain development which also causes hormonal changes giving them the urge to take and be in control of their own affairs.

Before we look at tips to make him obey you, let’s first find out the adverse effects of teenage disobedience.

Negative impacts of teenager disobedience.

1. Prone to danger;

Teenagers who defy parents’ instructions may be heading toward a dangerous path.

This is because the parent has adequate experience to know the consequences of actions that can lead his wards into danger. That is why he finds it necessary to put down some instructions in order to prevent his teenager from falling into trouble.

2. Fallout with authorities;

Disobedient teenagers mostly find themselves on the wrong side of the law because of their constant rebelling attitude.

They always want to do what pleases them, and most of their needs are things frowned upon by the law.

These things may include doing drugs, fighting, too much desire for sex, leading to rape, and others.

3. Drastic impact in securing a job;

Who will want to hire a disobedient teenager to work with? Not me. And I am sure most business owners wouldn’t want to hire such a person too because their attitude will have a dire impact on the success of their business.

Since taking orders or following instructions is something they wouldn’t want to do because of their rebellious attitude.

Now that we are done looking at the effects this lifestyle can have on teenagers, and how damaging it can be to their lives, I think it would help a lot to look at how one can make a teenager obedient to society and their parents.

1. Live an exemplary life;

If you wish to see your teenager live an obedient life and always obey you, make sure you also don’t have the habit of breaking the law.

Teenagers, just like children, also mimick what they see their elders do.

So if you have a habit of getting speeding tickets, fighting, or doing drugs which are all against the law, and your teenager knows about this habit of yours, there is no way such a teenager will obey your orders.

2. Be clear with your instructions;

Whenever you want your teenager to do the chores or follow any other instructions, don’t find yourself repeating what you said to them.

Add consequences to make it clear to him that if he doesn’t follow through with what you are requesting him to do, there will be severe punishments that he might not want.

This, in the long run, will have a significant influence on him to become a responsible member of society.

3. Don’t react;

No matter what your teenager does, be calm and think it through first. I know this will be difficult because of how teenagers behave; they do things at times, and you just get pissed off.

But in this scenario, don’t show any sign of reaction. I am saying so because when they know how you will react, they can use that against you to get whatever they want.

Instead, give your response in a positive and controlled manner. Let them know that you are in charge and there is no room for disobedience.

I know this might be hard, but it is necessary to be tough on teenagers at times to put them on the right path.

With all the tips listed in this article, I hope you can take complete control of your home now, where there will be nothing like disobedience coming from your teenager again.
